Hello to everyone back home or wherever you are in the world.
Had a few mintues and some working internet so I wanted to post a blog about some things that have been happening to me on the trip. I have so much to say and not even time to say it all.

Basically life has been a super crazy rollercoaster ride since I stepped foot on the plane over here. It all started with a 2 hour flight to Atlanta, then a 14 hour flight to Dubai, next a 2 hour flight to Kuwait city, 2 hours to get a Visa, an hour spent filling a report for my lost bag and a 30 minute ride to the hotel, it was a very long day!

Once in Kuwait it was all fancy and fun times, we stayed at a beautiful fancy hotel, J.W. Marriott, with great food and fantastic service. Spent two nights there then it was a 2 hour flight to Baghdad, this became the most unique and exciting part thus far.

The plane lands on the military side of Baghdad International Airport and we are instructed to exit the plane and wait on the tarmack, next is a very long walk with all my luggage to meet our point of contact, then wait in line to be given linens and assigned a tent. The first tent I had slept about 25 guys and was very close quarters, no room at all. We shower and use the bathroom in a trailer that is commonly known as “The Cadillac”, it really isn’t that bad at all.

Luckily it is winter here right now so the weather is very mild, about 70 during the day and 40 at night, that sounds like ideal weather, but the wind always blows, the sky is always overcast and filled with sand, so bascially it is sometimes hard to figure out where the ground ends and the sky begins. There is rarely any privacy here and it is so hard to get use to everything being surrounded by Twalls.

Twalls are giant concete slabs that are about 20 feet high, they surround every single structure, tent, bathroom or building here. It is really hard to figure you way around because all you see is Twalls in every direction, basically you are surround by grey and brown all the time.

The food is pretty good, we eat at what they call the Dfac (Dining Facility) there are lots of choices and the food is very high in calories and starches, I am already starting to get fat The first night was pretty hard to sleep, as I layed in my top bunk all I could hear was the sound of nonstop hellicoptors flying around and other guys snoring.

For the most part I feel completely safe all the time and I am having a great time. I have met some amazing Airman and Soldiers who live in these conditions day in and day out, I have completely gained a whole new respect for them and want to remind everyone at home to please help support our troops in anyway possible. They live and work in an environment that most Americans will never see, experience or could even understand.

Horrible title, I know, but it’s really early in the morning so go back to your coffee. That being said, if you read the shame of a title you’d see that Steve has been too busy to update, but he found a spare minute (roll over minutes?) to actually send out an update.

I don’t even remember the last time there was a Steven update, but I do know that he has A LOT of fans so to the post!! Steven explains his absense and exciting ‘projects’ that he has coming up. He’s going to Iraq for work!! How cool is that!! I say pretty darn-tootin cool because he’s promising a bundle of updates on his latest adventure over-seas and that’s awesome for both us & you. He explains the rest below, so here ya go!

 

Iraq, My Next Big Adventure

Hello everyone…
Sorry I have been MIA from myspace and facebook for a while, Holidays and recent workload have just had me swamped!  So I wanted to give everyone an update on what has been going on with me lately.  I have had a lot of great opportunites open up for me at work lately which are going to make for some exciting new adventures.  My big news is that I am going to be traveling to Kuwait and then Iraq for work.  Unfortuneatly, due to security reasons I can’t reveal exactly when I am travling or where, but I can say I am leaving pretty soon.

  I am going over with the company I work for which is a contracter for the military and I will be working on military installations.  Again, I can’t say exactly what I am doing, but I will say that my work is all part of a larger effort to begin bringing our troops home and letting the Iraq peole run their own country!  I am going to be in country for about a month as well as in Kuwait before and after my Iraq visit.

HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS, I am planning on bringing a digital camera and doing weekly picture posts as well as a video blog of my experience over there.  I am going to blog about and video as much of my experiences as possible so that everyone can see a little bit into the daily life of a contractor working in Iraq.  I also am hoping to get some time with the men and women of our armed forces that are stationed in Iraq, ask them some questions and have them send some messages back to the USA.  I am going to be very busy between now and my deployment so I won’t have much time to be online, however I hope that everyone will check back on my site and look out for my pictures and video blogs. 

I will do my best to check mail but please keep in mind that my interenet access is going to be very limited as well as my time.  As most know I am not a very political person, however I am filled with pride and joy to know that I am playing a very small role in helping to GET OUR TROOPS HOME!

“Hello everyone,

First off, i want to thank everyone for all of the nice messages and comments that you  have written me. I have just returned to LA. after a long vacation back in Ohio. While i was  in Ohio i got to meet my new nephew braidon and see my little niece jayla. It was so nice   spending time with them. I spent much needed time with all my family and old friends.

I also went to visit dan in Michigan while i was there, i took two of my best friends with me and they were so excited to meet dan the man. LOl….. Dans mom was very sweet to all of us and his sister kelly is a sweetheart. Dan gave us a tour of St. Marys and introduced us to some of the teachers and students, all of who was very nice. We also got to watch dan teach a class!!!!!!

I have not been back to work yet, i will be traveling a bit in the future for hooters. I will be in San Diego later this week for calendar signings and then i will be headed to Washinton at the beginning of next month. I will try to keep all of you posted on any new news in my life.
