We’re back with the second episode! After the women return from tribal, they are greeted by a few of the men who quickly inform them that they watched the fire for them while they were gone (lol) Christina tried to talk to Alicia, to clear the air, but Alicia was thrilled with what happened at tribal – she feels she really “exposed” Christina and her lies (what a nut job).
The next morning, the women gather to have a meeting and determine Sabrina should be the leader of the tribe. Sabrina quickly determines that certain women should look after certain elements that the camp needs (water, food etc) It quickly lead to drama and caused a divide between the younger girls and the older women. Naturally, the older women are upset with the younger girls work ethic!
Later in the afternoon, the women discover tree mail. They find a box and a note which says they have to open the box in an open area and both tribes must agree on the spot. Both tribes are faced with the first “Do it yourself” challenge.
DIY Challenge & Results! »
Both boxes contain knotted ropes, attached to a metal ring. The first tribe to untie all their knots and release the ring will win reward: a tarp! After the challenge is over both tribes get to keep the box and rope! The men decide to sit Big Mike as they have one extra member.
Both teams are off to a strong start. It looks like the women are slightly ahead, but it’s fairly neck and neck. However, the men end up winning the first DIY challenge, seconds before the women released their ring!
After the break, we come back to the men working on adding their tarp to their camp. While the rest of the tribe is working, they notice that Colton hasn’t helped at all – all day. Colton heads over to the women’s tribe where he is informed that he should try to at least find something in common with the men! Even some of the women start to get a short temper with him and try to chase him off. Despite Colton’s begging for them to take him in, they continue to push him away.
Later that evening, Colton informs Troyzan and Jonas that he has the immunity idol and he is planning to use it at tribal. The two agree with him that they can use it to get out Matt or Mike – Colton just has to make them believe they are still on his side. The three quickly make an alliance.
Immunity Challenge SPOILERS! »
At the immunity challenge, both teams will line up side by side on a narrow balance beam above the water. One tribe member at time will have to move across the balance beam and around their tribe members. If you fall in the water, you must start again. If you touch two people at the same time, you also have to start over. Once that person reaches the platform, the next person can go.
Tarzan is sitting out for the men. Two men are quickly over on the men’s side, where the women are struggling majorly. The men gain three members to the platform, where the women have none. Kat persistently keeps touching two people and jumping back into the water when she doesn’t have to. Monica tries to take control but the men only have 3 members left to get to the podium.
Mike passes Matt and the Men easily win immunity for the second time in a row!
After returning from the challenge, the women gather up. Kat apologizes for her lack of communication skills and says it wasn’t easy. Despite Kat being the obvious choice, Sabrina wants Nina out of here because she is dead weight. Monica is wishing Kat being the one to leave, but she thinks it’s a death sentence for one of the older women to ask that from the younger women.
Nina takes a stab at trying to talk a few of the younger girls into voting out Kat and Chelsea agrees that Nina is right. Chelsea and Kim worry about numbers but are considering getting rid Kat anyway. They feel Nina should be here over Kat but are going to work on the rest of their alliance trusting them.
Tribal Council SPOILERS! »
At tribal, Jeff thinks the women are off to the worst start in history. He asks Kim what she thinks she brings to the tribe. She feels she brings great communication but feels she hasn’t really found her voice yet. Jeff feels like he’s talking to six strangers.
Nina says it’s for them to be a cohesive tribe because it’s divided 5 vs 3 (younger vs older). Jeff asks if they know the backgrounds of Kat and Nina (of course). Nina relays all her experience, and Kat is pressured to admit she is the youngest on the tribe and has less experience, but always wants to see their tribe succeed.
Nina has smoke blowing out of her ears because Kat always mentions how good of an athlete she is. In Nina’s eyes, being an athlete means three things – athletic ability, putting up with the pressure and being smart. She feels that Kat can’t handle stress and was the biggest mess during the challenge.
Kim says that the tribe’s decision tonight is between Kat and Nina – one with little life experience but a great athlete or someone who has a lot of of life experience and brings other things to the table.
Jeff asks Chelsea if she could make a different alliance, would she start over? She replies with yes, it would be a different alliance and Sabrina agrees 100%. Jeff calls out Alicia is she’s embarrassed that there was no girl power on the tribe – Alicia thinks they needed to work harder and were embarrassed.
Kat starts crying and she says her communication skills are upsetting her and she’s never failed in life. She thinks it’s fair to vote her out, because she thought she could do, but hopes her tribe will keep her around.Kat throws in that Christina is also one to watch. Veronica notices that this is why they fail and the men succeed because men get it out in the open but women keep it bottled up.
The tribe has spoken SPOILERS!!! »
They begin to vote…
Jeff gathers the vote and the first name he pulls out is for Nina, then Kat. Christina is next. Nina is pulled again. Another Nina. Second person voted out of Survivor: One World is Nina.

Kat voted for Nina
Christina voted for Nina
Alicia voted for Nina<
Nina voted for Kat
Monica voted for Christina
Chelsea voted for Nina

We start off meeting all the castaways on the beach. After a few introductions, Jeff splits the men (Manono) and women (Salani) into their respective tribes. The men, seemingly uncomfortable with the idea, where the women seem secure in the twist.
Minor drama ensued after Jeff gave both tribes 60 seconds to gather as many supplies off of a truck as they could, as the men stole some of the women’s items. It later came back to bite them when the women caught two chickens and planned to use one of them to barter for some items back.
The men made a fire first, which also caused some drama. The men wanted to trade an ember for a chicken, but the women wouldn’t budge. A few members from Salani suggested getting naked for an ember, but the men weren’t interested. The women ended up getting their fire but sneaking over in the middle of the night to get a few embers!
However, the fire was short lived. Christina bartered 20 fronds and the guys would give them fire. While most were happy, Alicia was very upset and vowed to get Christina out first.
Hidden Immunity Idol SPOILERS!! »
Sabrina stumbled upon the hidden immunity idol early on. She quickly learned that she had to give the idol to a member of the mens tribe. Colton was her first choice, and he was supremely thrilled. He believes this is his saving grace.
Immunity Challenge SPOILERS!! »
In the first immunity challenge, each tribe will have to jump from a 25ft tower to a net below, go over a balance beam and them a rope bridge. When all members are on the mat, they can raise their tribe flag.First tribe to release the flag wins, losers face tribal council. In addition to winning, you also get a piece of flint.
Courtney hurts herself jumping off the tower, they suspect it was a broken arm. As such, Jeff gives the men the option to send the women to tribal or complete the challenge. The men tell the women to go to tribal council. The women try to defend the decision, and continue on, but the men don’t budge.
The women are off to tribal council.
Tribal Council SPOILERS!! »
Before heading tp Tribal, the women decide that if Courtney stays, she probably won’t be much use with her sprain, so to vote her out. However, Alicia still has Christina on the chopping block and hopes to see her go.
At Tribal, Jeff asks how the tribe got fire. Christina starts saying how they stole it in the night, however Alicia blows it up saying she (Christina) made some sort of secret deal with the men. Christina tries to clarify but Alicia persists on. Christina ends up clearing the air, but Alicia is livid, wanting to punch Christina in the face.
Jeff notices that there is no leader in this tribe and that is why the men are dominating the women.
After things calm down, Jeff reveals that Courtney broke her wrist is several different places, it will require surgery, and she is out of the game. He says no one else is going home tonight, and they will leave with fire tonight. He tells them they need to get it together or else it will be a very difficult 30+ days left!
The season starts in just three days, so here are my thoughts on the members of the Survivor 24 cast based on the videos at CBS.com, as well as my ranking of them from least to most likely to win.
ALICIA:
She seems pretty nice actually. I thought she was boring at first, but she grew on me. She isn’t my favorite, but I do like her, I find her amusing and I hope she goes far. I don’t see her being the most dynamic character of the season — she’ll probably be one of the invisible pre-merge female boots that we get so many of — but she’ll be a fun background character.
BILL:
I love Bill. I don’t know what it is about him, but I love him. From the second I watched his video, I pegged him as the guy I am going to root for all reason and as my pick to win. He seems incredibly nice, personable and charismatic. He seems smart enough to get into a good alliance without overplaying everything and making tons of deals like some of the other people in this cast. Bill is incredibly likable for me and I am seriously looking forward to seeing what this guy brings.
CHELSEA:
On paper, she couldn’t be any more boring and generic.. A Southern, blonde girl who works in pharmecutical sales??? Wow, Survivor, you’re blowing my mind! I had no idea such things existed! But then I watched her video and she actually seems funny, and at least more unique than Whitney and Krista. I think that she’s got more to bring than people will give her credit for. She talks really slowly so it’s hard to stay interested in her.. but I like her personality. Still, because she’s a young, moderately attractive blonde girl, I will be surprised if she gets more than two confessionals in any one episode for the entire duration of the season. Then she’ll randomly end up on the jury, ask something generic and I’ll forget I ever cared about her..
CHRISTINA:
Erm. Yawn. I find nothing interesting about Christina at all. I just find it impossible to care about her in any way beyond a mild distaste because for some reason she has way too many fans on some of the websites I visit. Late pre-merge boot whom nobody will remember. Next?
COLTON:
Never before in my entire viewing experience have I had such a strong aversion to somebody before the season even started. I hate Colton.. He’s basically the exact same personality as everybody in the online Survivor community whom I dislike — that is, a vindictive, catty, OTTN gay guy who always thinks he’s plotting and scheming shit. We already saw this in Africa and in Palau, and each time it was less interesting than the time before. Colton’s just going to do it in an even more irritating, smug way. He’ll probably somehow make it to the jury if he manages to avoid being the first boot on his tribe. He’s going to get like fifty confessionals every episode and be this season’s forced villain, unless there is a God in which case he will be the first boot. I have never hated somebody so strongly before the season.
GREG:
My first reaction to this guy was…. what the fuck? A 64-year-old man who wrestles, does plastic surgery, plays piano, calls himself Tarzan and has the same name as, of all people, Greg Buis. This man exists. I have no idea how well he will do — I can see him as the first boot, randomly ending up on the jury, or as the goat who gets dragged to finals; it is just impossible to peg him — but he will bring the lulz and bring them often while he lasts. I think he’ll be one of the first few boots, but he’ll probably make it to finals if he makes the merge because he’s just too good a goat to pass up. One thing is for sure — this man is going to be a character.
JAY:
What? Who are you? Yawn. Your voice is obnoxious and that’s all that I remember about you. Toneless guy booted after the merge who absolutely nobody remembers. Benry, Grant, Brett and Keith all say hi. Boring. Next?
JONAS:
Jonas will either be one of the first three people voted out or he will win the season. I can see him being voted out early like Peter Harkey just from being unable to gel with his tribe, because he’s kind of awkward, but.. I also get a lot of Yul/Earl vibes from him. I think that if he gets himself into a good position (which he might; I can see him being friends with Jay, Bill, etc.), then he will be able to play a very subtle game and ride it all the way to the end. I don’t find him interesting as a person at all, but that’s exactly why he won’t be a target. I think that as a long-term threat he is definitely somebody to watch out for. He’s going to play a subtle game and it’ll work.
KAT:
Hi, Ashley T/Ashlee A/Ashley U/Whitney D/Kelly S/Kelly S/Kim M/Krista K/any other obscure, irrelevant blonde you can think of. Nice to see you back as eye candy for the straight guys. Enjoy your low visibility while it lasts; I’ll see you at the Loser’s Lodge before the merge. There’s about a 9/10 chance she’ll be a boring UTR boot like the girls I named, but she’s notable in that there is a 1/10 chance she’ll come like a bat out of hell and be some weird-ass, over-the-top character. I only say this because she actually said the quote “Xena is the warrior princess who is my alter ego”. She’s somebody to watch for because there could be serious Courtney Marit-style lulz from this girl, but if she doesn’t do anything by episode three, then she’ll just be another generic blonde we don’t remember.
KIM:
When I first watched the cast videos, I thought that Kim was incredibly uninteresting but had the best shot of any female to win the game.. now, though, my opinion on her has done a total 180. I think that she is going to be a huge, popular character who brings a lot of entertainment. She’s weird and quirky and it doesn’t feel forced. She just casually drops shit like “Yeah, I compare people to animals when I meet them”. I think that she will be too loud to last past the early stages and I had a perception of her as someone who is going to play a savvy, subtle game, but that’s totally been smashed. Kim is going to be great and we are going to love her, but she’s not going to win. I am really looking forward to what she brings, though.
KOURTNEY:
Girl I am loving you so far. Yeah, she’s the obvious favorite and a lot of people are hopping on the Kourtney bandwagon, but I just think she is a genuinely likable girl who will provide entertainment and an underdog to root for. I am interested to see what she brings to the table because there are so many different ways that her character could go. My guess? A Kelly Bruno who starts off as a strong character but then the editors ignore her until she’s backstabbed by her alliance and is sad about it and that’s the end of her story arc. And by the end of her run, we’ll kind of forget that we ever cared about her. I don’t see her reaching the merge, but that does not at all detract from the fact that I love her.
LEIF:
I thought Russell Hantz was the first little person ever cast on the show? At any rate, Leif will grab about as much relative air time as Hantz did. As my sister puts it, no matter what happens this season, it’ll always be “that season with the midget”. He is going to be a forced underdog edit and whine about bullying just like Christy, but the problem is that Leif is incredibly bland. I find it impossible to care about anything that he’s saying because he has nothing interesting to contribute. On the plus side, I do continue paying attention to him when he talks because making puns about shortness are so, so, SO easy with him. He’ll provide offensive humor but nothing else beyond a forced edit.
MATT:
Holy fucking douchebag this guy is obnoxious. Overall he’s just bland and uninteresting and will probably play a supporting role, but one thing he said seriously irked me and is giving me strong vibes that he’ll be an intolerable tool. He said something to the effect of him not caring how anyone plays the game, “as long as it doesn’t interfere with [his] plans” or something. That’s the type of entitled Lex/John Carroll attitude that makes for a seriously irritating character. I don’t hate him as much as I hate Colton by a long shot, but.. I’m not looking forward to this guy.
MICHAEL:
Michael seems nice.. Bland, but nice. I think that he’ll be a random guy I root for who ends up on the jury like Grant. I don’t think he’ll be a strong force in the season but I thoroughly enjoy him based on what I’ve seen, he seems like just a legit dude. I have no idea what role he’ll fulfill, though, because I just don’t get any strong vibes about him one way or the other. He’s just there.
MONICA:
Very Kristina Kell, only without the part where Kristina was great pre-show before she turned into an awful player. Monica just starts off as the obnoxious bitch who is going to be an awful player. Monica’s one of the first two boots from the female tribe and that’s a 100% guaranteed fact right there. She’s going to get booted just for being bossy and too into herself. I won’t enjoy her. She’s an arrogant, self-centered bitch and nobody’s going to stand for it.
NINA:
Yawn. She’s this season’s Dawn/Julie/Holly but doesn’t do it interestingly. I don’t have any reason to care about her. She’ll be nice but I won’t care a lot about her either way and neither will anybody else. Probably the first boot.
SABRINA:
Haven’t we seen you before? Alright, Survivor, we get it; you like to cast sassy black chicks as pre-merge boot fodder. We saw it in Francesca, Stacey and Semhar. You can stop now… Sabrina is going to be an early boot just like all the aforementioned people. I won’t care about her but people will make her out to be a bigger character than she was and I’ll get sick of it.
TROYZAN:
Next to Colton, Troyzan is my least favorite member of the cast. He’s going to be like Phillip — specifically cast to play the Coach role and overedited. He isn’t funny. He is forced. He’s going to be this season’s ~wacky character~ and holy hell am I going to hate it. Screw Troyzan. I’m over him and his inevitable overedit already.
Now, here’s my ranking of the contestants from least to most likely to win:
18. Greg
They cast him to be a big character and he will be and he’ll be amusing for however long he lasts because he is just such a weird fucking guy. But there’s no way he is winning. It’ll be hard for him to even survive the first few episodes. This guy cannot win the season. There is absolutely, positively no plausible way it could ever happen. He’s one of the first boots or he’s a goat, with a slight chance of being a Rick who will end up on the jury randomly. My money is on one of the first boots.
17. Monica
Hey, remember that one season where had a loud, aggressive woman who thinks she’s the shit win Survivor? Yeah, me neither. Monica, have fun being this season’s Christine/Kristina. Absolutely, positively zero shot at even making the merge.. “thanks” for playing.
16. Matt
“Everybody’s got their own game, and as long as they don’t interfere with mine, then it’ll be fine”. There’s the quote that pissed me off. Yes, Matthew Quinlan. NOBODY ELSE will do ANYTHING to interfere with you winning the game. Nobody will even think of standing in the way of you and the title of Sole Survivor. He’s already got an entitled attitude about him that brings to mind John Carroll and for that quote alone, there is absolutely no way that he’ll win. He’s going to be the guy who tries too hard to play the so-called “strategic” game and gets voted out for it because people are sick of him, just like Jim, David, Brendan and Marty in the last few seasons… the only difference being that I loved all of them. At least people like him don’t win.
15. Nina
The only time we’ve ever had the “motherly” figure win the season was in Australian Outback and that’s because of the context of that season and an incredible amount of luck. Not to detract from Tina or her win because Tina’s a great player; my point is just that except for that incredibly unique season, this type of player just isn’t going to win. It doesn’t happen except for that one anomaly. Nina’s not winning. I’ll be surprised if Nina even makes it more than three weeks.
14. Sabrina
The sassy black chicks do not win. Ever. It has not happened. It has never come close to happening. It will never come close to happening. Tip to anyone reading this: If you are a black female and any part of you thinks that your mouth could get you in trouble on Survivor, then give up all hopes of winning Survivor because you have absolutely no shot whatsoever. Sabrina, this applies to you. You cannot win the game of Survivor. Enjoy your run while it lasts and try to be more interesting than Stacey and Semhar were.
13. Leif
Leif’s biggest (littlest?) obstacle is going to be making the merge because no shit it’ll be harder for him to integrate and I guarantee you that in the first episode we’ll hear at least two people talking about how the idea of Leif getting sympathy votes scares them. I can see him having a similar problem as Kelly B; people are so scared about sympathy votes that they themselves would be the ones giving him that they senselessly isolate him and vote him out due to that fear. And Leif seems really, really boring and awkward so I don’t even see him counteracting that fear. There’s no situation in which this guy wins the game because he will not make finals. I doubt he’ll make merge. The real question here is — how will his torch-smuff go? Will he have a smaller torch? Will Jeff have to crouch?
12. Colton
Now we’re out of the “People who can never, ever win this season, ever” and in the land of “People who might win, but it is very, very, very, very unlikely and only can happen in the event that they’re very different than they’re portrayed as being”. Exhibit A, Colton. Brandon Q and Coby didn’t win and there’s no reason to think that he will be any different unless they’re playing up the extent to which he thinks himself an uber-strategist.. but based on his quotes in the answers to the questions, I highly doubt it. Colton’s run will be a long, painful, fruitless endeavor and I hope it’s as short as Leif.
11. Kat
The blonde eye candy doesn’t win and you have done nothing to differentiate yourself from, say… any Survivor contestant ever to be named “Ashley”. I don’t see you as having the perceptive skills to play Natalie White’s under-the-radar game. If that happens, then maybe you’ll have a shot, but chances are.. no.
10. Troyzan
He seems to be more personable and likable than his inevitable counterpart Greg, so he has a shot, but.. it’s not a big one. He has an incredibly small chance of winning in case he’s a lot more calm and less of a Coach than I’ve been envisioning, but I really doubt that that’s the case.
9. Chelsea
See above with Kat, only Chelsea has shown a few more signs of having an actual brain and game plan. I peg her as somebody who gets into an alliance that fails, fights to stick around a bit longer and maybe lasts one or two rounds longer than she’s expected to, but then gets voted out after that. At any rate, her odds of winning are negligible.
8. Christina
Yawn. You haven’t given me any reason to care about you so I am just smacking you right in the middle of this. Maybe she could win, it’s possible, but.. I doubt it. I just can’t see a scenario where she makes it to finals and wins. I can’t really see a scenario where she does anything, for that matter.
7. Alicia
Meh. She seems nice enough to pull out a win somehow if she gets lucky enough. She could be a winner like Jud or Bob who just manages to work their way to the end and gets votes for having been likable.. but I doubt it. This group of people is pretty all over the place, so I’m not predicting a passive winner. She’ll probably be a random toneless MOR boot on the Jury like Alina.
6. Kim
When I first watched Kim’s video, I was pretty sure that she’d head an alliance and play a subtle game and basically do what Sophie did last season. But in retrospect, she’ll be lovable but she’ll be loud, awkward and an early boot. The hype about her as a potential winner is definitely not accurate. Sorry, Kim.
5. Kourtney
With Kourtney, it depends on whether she turns out to just be a nice girl who’s sorta quirky but still gets along with everyone well, or whether she turns out to just be incredibly awkward and isolates everyone. If she’s weird, then she’s an early boot, but I think that she’ll just be a nice girl who has some quirks but people can relate with her. I can see her getting into a good position and sticking around if an alliance falls (for some reason, I really just see this as a male-dominated season) and I can see her being somebody whom people approach for cross-tribal alliances as well. I’m interested to see what happen with Kourtney. I knocked her down a few spots in case she turns out to just be incredibly fucking awkward, but she is definitely somebody to watch out for because I think that she might be more charasmatic than people expect. What also hurts her, though, is her refusal to lie. It will take a lot of luck for Kourtney to win, but she has a better shot than any of the people I’ve ranked below her. There’s a big gap between Kim and Kourtney, and an even bigger gap between her and the next person listed.
4. Michael
I think Michael is a plain old nice guy but I’ve learned to stop expecting those guys to win. I expected Jim to win for that reason last season (and he didn’t turn out to be that way), and I was certain Mike or Grant would win throughout the season before that. So I’m not getting my hopes up for another strong, big, nice guy to just sneak to the end and take a win… but if anybody pulls that off this season, then it’ll be Michael. He could very easily be the head of an alliance and just hold them together until the end where he wins. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen at all. I really don’t know what’ll happen with this guy.
3. Jay
It would be very hard for me to care any less about Jay on a personal level because I think he is incredibly bland and uninteresting, but I think that he’s probably a nice guy when you’re around him so I think that he’ll be in a good position and avoid the first few votes simply because other people like him. After that, I think that he’ll be unable to make bold strategic moves and because of that he’ll just end up getting dumped at some point around the jury phase, but he has a chance to pull a win out. Most likely, though, I see him as a late juror who will be booted for being a jury threat. He could be like JT if he’s charismatic enough, though. I certainly hope he doesn’t win because he is bland and overrated.
2. Jonas
I don’t know what it really is about Jonas, but something about him is giving me serious Earl Cole vibes. I think that he has a very good shot at ending up in a majority alliance and manipulating the situation so that everyone is really playing in a way that benefits him without them knowing it. I have a really good feeling about Jonas managing to work his way into a great spot in the game and playing a subtle, low-key game that gives him a win. My only real problems with him are that he seemed a bit too keen in his video on backstabbing and I’m also not sure whether he’ll be personable enough to get in good with people so he might get in an alliance but be at the bottom of it without realizing, but those are the only flaws I see in him. Jonas is definitely someone to watch. He’s my sister’s pick to win, and I definitely see that.
1. Bill
Watch for Bill. Bill is going to get into a strong alliance because Bill has a genuinely likable air about him. I guarantee you he’ll get into a a solid alliance early on and I have a feeling that whichever alliance he becomes a part of will become successful. Bill will be the strongest person in that alliance without necessarily appearing to be. Bill will form good relationships with everybody, perform amicably in the challenges and not have to do a ton of strategizing. He’ll just work his way to the end by being a nice guy with a solid group of people and by winning challenges, and he’ll be a winner like Ethan or Aras who just got there by being a nice dude with the numbers but without having to be the mastermind. I like Bill a lot and I am really rooting for him to win and even beyond that I just think that he has a great shot. Something about him just screams to me “Hey, watch for this guy!” and I don’t think anyone else in the cast will see him coming. Bill is going to be the star and the winner of Survivor 24.
At any rate, this is definitely a season for a man to win.
Looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
